January 31st, 2014 - Dramatic Desert
So today we go DRAMATIC! I have been tooling around with some black and white processing and while this photo was kind of cool I had one of my moments of wanting to go overboard and I think it came out pretty cool. Let me know your thoughts. As always feel free to share and comment.
Anyone missing the cold? I thought you all might so why not give you a nice icy shot today. This was actually shot in December up in Michigan but not the U.P. this time. This was actually shot outside of my hotel in Kalamazoo and the area had a really bad ice storm the week before and if you look at this on a bigger screen you can actually see all the branches on this tree are encased in a nice layer of it. I just liked the baron tree and the cool sky mixed with the ice so I shot it. Goes to show you don't have to always travel to exotic locations to find interesting photographs.
So the last couple of days have been landscape scenes so today I thought I would change it up and go back to the horses I had mentioned the other day. I wish I would have stuck around a little longer and actually took some more photos of these guys. I only snapped a couple and went on my way. Going to have to track down some horses to photograph, living down the road from a college that has a huge horse farm should make that not so difficult. Let me know if you like the horses!
Well in stark contrast of yesterdays daily photo of warmth and deep color I give you another shot I did on the same afternoon a little earlier in the day at an abandon farm I found probably 20 miles or so from where I shot the sunset. My wife said it best when she said it reminds her of "desolation" which is kind of the feeling I was going for. I don't know if it can compete with how popular yesterdays photo was, but we'll give it a shot. Let me know what you think and maybe which "feeling" or scene is more interesting to you. As always I appreciate the the feedback and when you share with friends and invite them to follow along. Cheers!
January 27th, 2014 - Sunset in Rice Country
So for today's daily photo I thought I would try and bring a little warmth and sunlight especially for my friends to the north who I hear are getting their butts kicked. I shot this a couple evenings ago out in the middle of nowhere. I liked the flooded field, I think it is a rice farm. And if you look closely in the upper right hand side there was a flock of geese flying over head. I love how this came out and I hope you do too. Please share and let me know what you think!
Well this place should look familiar if you have been following along with me for a while. Yesterday I went out shooting and while I was out I dropped off a print of the "Old Horse Barn" shot I did some months back (turned out the guy wasn't home). But turns out he actually does have horses and they just happened to be outside so I snapped a couple quick shots of them before leaving. Nothing too fancy but I thought it was awesome that the horse was actually standing in front of the barn like this. Don't you? Like, share and comment below!
Well I am actually out doing some shooting today but I spent a lot of time editing this one together yesterday and am pretty proud of it. This is a new editing technique for black and whites and I think it came out pretty good. These are some mountains in Red Rock Canyon outside of Las Vegas and I am actually submitting this to a photo contest so I would love some feedback and critiquing. Analyze the shot and let me know if anything seems off! Thanks always for your participation and please share and comment. Hopefully I am capturing beautiful shots as we speak.
January 24th, 2014 - Log Cabin in the U.P.
Today's shot is back up in Michigan and I don't know why but I like log cabins and even though this is actually a visitors center type thing I still thought it would make for a cool shot. What do you guys think?
So today's daily photo comes from somewhere in the Ozarks, not quite sure where. When we left Gunner Pool after shooting there a while back we drove through a bunch of mountains on our way out and a couple of times I just randomly pulled over and took photos of the thick forest and how it was almost over running the dirt road that winded through it. I hope you guys enjoy. Make sure to like, share and always love feedback!
January 22nd, 2014 - In The Act of Art

Today was just a random decision. My wife and I both enjoy getting tattoos and on a whim she decided to get some work done from our friend Freddie at Black Arrow Tattoo in Jonesboro, AR. I just decided to take my camera along for fun and snap a few shots for fun. For some reason the depth of field and the contrast of this one stuck out. Enjoy!
Today I bring you a daily photo from the shores of Lake Superior again, but this is a different part from where the other shots have been coming. There was this huge ice pack that had come and jammed itself into the shoreline and I thought it made kind of a cool transition from forest, to snowy bank, to ice pack to water. Enjoy, share and give feedback!
So today's daily photo took a little more work then your average shot. I am always trying to expand my photography skills and one of the things I have been really wanting to try is super long exposure photography. So I went and stood in the cold for 2 hours this morning waiting for the light of the sun to slightly creep over the horizon line and start adding in some nice colors to the background but wanted to keep some nice stars in there. Looking back I wish I would have kept this going even longer but this turned out to be a 13 minute exposure! When you think that the normal everyday photo you take is probably shot at 1/250th of a second 13 minutes is a LONG time for a camera to be taking a picture. Please enjoy, share and give feedback. I would love to know if you guys want me to try some more of this.
So we are back in Nashville again today because I really liked looking at these cool old monuments. I take a lot of interest in military history and love to see their dedication and sacrifice remembered. If you read really close you can actually read the plaques on each side of the monument a bit. Enjoy, share and give feedback!
Today's daily photo is of Red Rock Canyon outside of Las Vegas, NV. I had so much fun hiking up and down these huge rock formations. Looking back I wish I would have taken more photos but we were dummies and didn't bring much water. Enjoy, share and give feedback!
Happy Friday to those of you who are weekend warriors. Today I bring you a photo of the Nashville skyline from a cool pedestrian bridge that leads over the river. Nashville really is a very cool city, I highly recommend it for a visit. Hope you enjoy and feel free to share and give feedback!
January 16th, 2014 - Jurassic Falls
Well yesterdays daily photo was a smashing success so I doubt I'll top it today but I like this photo for a couple reasons. One it was shot in Hawaii. Two I shot it out of a helicopter and three this happens to be the waterfall from the famous landing scene in Jurassic Park. It isn't HDR or even the clearest shot I have ever taken but I love it none the less and I hope you do too!
Well today's daily photo is one of the last I have from Dowagiac, MI when I was up there in October doing the fall series. I like the old lamp post and clock a lot. The clouds that day were pretty spectacular. Enjoy!
So today's daily photo is back up on the shore of Lake Superior in the U.P. and photos don't do justice to how cool this looked in person. Directly on the other side of those big rocks you see at the top is the lake and the huge waves come crashing over the wall and coat all these plants and rocks in this thick glassy ice. I just thought it looked amazing. I wasn't the only one, there were people stopping and taking pictures all over. Feel free to share with your friends and invite them to come look at some more work!
Day 3 of Rachel and this shot I just loved the softness of the expression on her face and the way her hair fell. I also like the shoes in the background and the buttons on the arm of her shirt. Enjoy and this is the last day of Rachel photos.
Day 2 of Rachel and today I give you a silhouette shot. The lovely part about shooting so long is that you get to really try some different lighting set ups and situations. I wanted just enough spill light to be able to highlight her features. I love the hair and the chains off the back of her dress.
Day 1 of Rachel and this starts a 3 day spread of shots I did of this gorgeous model. I had the privileged of having over 4 hours of shooting time with her and we did lots of different outfits and situations. This was near the beginning and I just loved the way her eyes look in this shot. The contrast lighting on her face I think really came out well too. The last thing is how well the rim light really just halos her entire head. One of my favorite shots of the evening.
How about a visit to Dowagiac, MI? This was kind of just a random shot that I didn't really spend a lot of time setting up, but am pretty happy with the result. I really love how the tree feels like it is crawling over me as I am photographing up at the lion statue. You guys like it?
So I have been on a big Hawaii kick lately so today you get another shot of that. Don't worry I have a lot of HDR work in the pipelines I just really hate the cold so my mind is in the mountains of Kauai. I hope you guys enjoy, please share and comment.
Been on a little non HDR kick lately just because I have been wanting to show that not all my photography skills are post processed. I am cheating a bit today due to being stuck in Memphis a bit so if you have spent time on the website you have probably seen this. This is a shot of a famous old lighthouse on Tybee Island outside of Savannah, GA. I actually walked up to the top of it and it is a very cool view. It is no longer in service but was pretty cool to see. (It is taller then it looks, my legs can tell you from experience!)
Thought we could come back to the reality of cold today and back to Lake Superior for another shot of the shore and the cool ice build up from the water. There isn't one thing about this shot that really jumps out as my favorite thing, I just like the all around scene and the feel of different parts of nature coming together. Let me know your thoughts.
Another ridiculously cold day, another day I wish I was in Hawaii! This is a shot from the helicopter and I just loved these razor sharp mountain edges. I really liked the contrast of the shadows from the sun cast too. What do you guys think? Comment and share away friends.
Today's daily photo is on the streets of Nashville. This road was blocked off for reasons I do not know, down by where all the bar craziness was going on. I just loved how empty it was with the rows of trees with Christmas lights on them. Created kind of a cool canopy of lights over the road. Hope you guys enjoy, please share and comment and let me know what you think.
Due to the ridiculous amount of cold going on today I decided I wanted to at least visit Hawaii in my mind. This is a non HDR shot from Waimea Canyon in Kauai and if you didn't notice there are a couple of people in the upper left hand corner of this shot. They stood on the edge of the massive canyon and did a ceremony to thank the land for providing for them every day. We had no clue this was going to happen when we drove up there, it was just a wonderful surprise. If you ever get a chance to go this is an amazing site to behold.
Well we are back in the cold today. From the sounds of it, most of the country is! This is back up in U.P. and was shot in this park we went to and I was actually photographing a cabin that is behind me and when I got done I turned around and saw this beautiful shadow being cast and really wanted to try and capture it. How did I do? Please share and comment and let me know!
Late daily photo today sorry. I was actually doing a photo shoot for my lovely wife. I wanted to do some different pose and lighting stuff. I'll have some of those for you in a bit. This is a shot from Tulsa, OK and I was in love with this building but could not find a great way to shoot it. I edited it anyways because the bricks and how run down it looked just screamed to be photographed. Let me know if you guys like it!
Get you guys out of the cold a bit today with a shot back in Nashville. This served a dual purpose today as both the daily photo and the fact that I needed an edited fish eye shot for my new You Tube video. This is the front of the Music City Center and it is a very interestingly shaped. Enjoy and happy new years!
